Professor, University of Tennessee
I graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor's and a master's degree in journalism, then worked for United Press International in Miami for awhile before going out to Colorado to teach at a small college. I liked teaching so I got a Ph.D. and eventually came to the University of Tennessee. I've taught at UT since 1977. Leaves took me to Ireland, Germany, Holland, Bosnia and India. I do a lot of writing and traveling, and plan to do more when I retire. My wife, Barbara, does market research and we have a son in his mid-30s who works for a software company in the San Francisco area. My family left Coral Gables years ago. I now realize what an excellent education we had, and how fortunate we were to grow up in a magical place in a relatively innocent era.
