Attorney

I married Diane Fass (Miami High '63) in 1980 and immediately became a parent of her children, ten-year-old Scott Duchon and seven-year-old Julie Duchon. Diane is a psychiatric social worker who has specialized in geriatric work and disaster recovery. Scott is now a creative copywriter for an advertising company (TBWA Chiat Day) in San Francisco, where he has created a variety of well-known national commercials (the pets.com sock puppet, Sony playstation II, Addidas and Levi Straus). Julie has a master's degree in social work and has stayed close to home, working at Baptist Hospital.

Scott married Kristi Broekhuizen almost two years ago and Julie will marry Raul Rabaina next Memorial Day weekend. Kristi works at Restoration Hardware Headquarters in California and Raul manages Fat Tuesday's on South Beach.

I became a customs and international trade lawyer by accident in 1969, when I stumbled into a Department of Justice job as a trial attorney defending suits filed against the Customs Service. In 1977 I started my own customs and international trade law firm with one other attorney, Tom Travis. Twenty-five years later, Tom and I are still together and the firm has grown into a 40-attorney law firm with offices in eight cities, and a consulting company in two additional cities... Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg, P.A. and Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services, Inc.

Diane and I spend a lot of time in New York-- where my Greenwich Village bachelor apartment has evolved into our "vacation home" -- and enjoy living in Coconut Grove, only a few minutes from Gables High and my family's home during my high school years. I often drive by both on my way to work and it reminds me of the good friends and strong foundation that the school, the community and our families gave us in those very different times.
